Yuzamashi is the perfect teaware for adjusting the water temperature for brewing the sensitive Japanese tea. The wide opening provides a large surface area to cool water and to see the tea leaves. Our Yuzumashi includes artistic flower leaves inside the pot with one leaf indicating a level of 100 ml and two leaves indicatng a level of 200 ml.
Boiled water cools to 90°C when poured to the Yuzamashi pot and then cooled to around 80°C when poured to the tea pot or Kyusu. If cooler water is needed, the water can be kept the the Yuzamashi for a little longer or poured to a cup and back to the teapot.
Our Yuzamashiis made out of clay in Tokoname in Aichi prefecture ofJapan, one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns with a history of pottery since the 12th century.
